What is behind my daily counting?

I am honored to have been invited to compete in the historic world-class event, the 10th-anniversary edition of FLATARK BMX FLATLAND WORLD COMPETITION 2023, which will take place in Japan at the renowned Koshien Baseball Stadium (阪神甲子園) during its 100th-anniversary celebration on the 23rd-24th of December 2023. Additionally, this event marks the first-ever urban sport competition to be held at such a sacred location, and it's the inaugural world competition in the women's category of FLAT ARK’s world series. I have also been asked to serve as a judge for the women's novice class.

Riding BMX flatland is no easy feat; it demands consistent training. However, working 48 hours a week, with little time and energy left for riding, made my life in Hungary, my home country, rather disheartening. I faced constant interference, lacked a suitable flat spot to ride, and received no support from anyone. The challenges exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in health issues and injuries from my demanding job. When I received my invitation, tears welled up in my eyes because I had never received such a personal invitation to an event of such significance. It was a pivotal moment, and I told myself, "Now or never, this is the opportunity that can change my life."

I have a long-standing history in BMX Freestyle, dating back to 1988, where riding became my life, and I earned a prominent reputation in the scene. Thanks to my family, I grew up immersed in this culture, performing shows every weekend at public events, schools, and more. Riding opened doors for me and took me to places worldwide. Between 1991 and 2019, I achieved four World Champion titles and two BMX Masters titles. You can find a list of my accomplishments on the first page of my website, which you can access by scrolling down: https://monikahinzbmx.webador.com/

Upon receiving the invitation, I knew it was my chance to return to riding, so I made the decision to commit fully to this path. The very next day, I resigned from my job to focus solely on riding and to regain my health with the assistance of my coach,  Scott Hagnas from Ride Unlimited. Now, 40 days have passed since the invitation, and I've commenced my training, posting short videos of my daily riding in my stories. With less than two months remaining, I believe this timeframe is sufficient to regain my fitness and prepare for the competition.

My husband is my most ardent supporter. He not only encourages and trains me but also shares my passion for BMX and skateboarding. He provides guidance on nutrition and a healthy lifestyle, which is instrumental in helping me pursue my dreams. We hope he can accompany me to document this journey.

To make this dream a reality, I am seeking financial support to cover travel expenses. The organizers have graciously covered accommodation and food for the competition days, but we would like to extend our stay in Japan for at least 10 additional days to acclimate, connect with local riders, and continue riding.

Airfare prices are particularly high during this time of year, so booking early is essential.
